This was one of the first Dermalogica products I had ever tried and it is truly unique. I have never come across a product that turns from a powder to a creamy exfoliator. I have sensitive acne prone skin and I was intrigued to see wether this was going to help it or aggravate it.
Ingredients
Microcrystalline Cellulose, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Myristoyl Glutamate, Malic Acid, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Charcoal Powder, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Maltodextrin, Silica, Magnesium Oxide, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Sapindus Trifoliatus Fruit Extract, Niacinamide, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Peel Oil, Zingiber Of cinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf, Kappaphycus Alvarezii Extract, Caesalpinia Spinosa Fruit Pod Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Rosmarinus Of cinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Salvia Of cinalis (Sage) Oil, Subtilisin, Lipase, Papain, Lactic Acid, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Xanthan Gum, Water/Aqua/Eau, Coconut Acid, Calcium Lactate, Capryloyl Glycine, Undecylenoyl Glycine, Cetrimonium Chloride, Limonene, Linalool.
That is a seriously long list of ingredients, possibly one of the longest lists I have ever ran through COSDNA.
Surprisingly no products flagged up as irritants or inclined to cause acne. Cetrimonium Chloride, Lactic Acid and Lemon Peel Oil flagged up in regards to safety but I personally don’t think they are anything to worry about. So I would give this an all clear!
Claims
“Fortified with Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Activated Binchotan Charcoal, the purifying daily treatment expertly dissolves dirt and impurities from deep within the pores, revealing a smoother, more refined complexion. Niacinamide, Red Algae and Tea Fruit Extract help to defend against the damaging effects of pollution and environmental aggressors.”
Application
After cleansing you dispense around half a teaspoons worth of product onto damp fingertips and emulsify into a creamy paste. The superfoliant doesn’t feel too rough on the skin but you can definitely feel the exfoliating particles. The longer you exfoliate the smoother the superfoliant feels and almost completely dissolves on the skin. There is no fragrance to the product which is a plus as fragrances often act as a trigger for acne and irritation.
My Experience
When I first used this my main concern was it making my skin worse rather than better. I rarely deviate from my normal skincare routine in the worry that my skin might breakout but with the cold giving me dry patches and rough skin I desperately needed something improve it.
Instantly after washing my face with this Dermalogica Superfoliant it felt smooth and free of dry skin. Immediately after my face was quite red but once the redness had subsided my complexion looked considerably clearer and brighter. It didn’t aggravate or irritate my skin or cause any breakouts.
Overall Review
I have been using the Dermalogica Superfoliant for 3 weeks now and it has made a huge difference to my skin. I use this on alternate days as I have sensitive skin but if you have normal skin you are able to incorporate this into your daily routine. I have had fewer breakouts, less oil production and my skin looks glowy and healthy. If you are looking for something to improve the texture of your skin and brighten your complexion this is something I would highly recommend.
