Mario Badescu, the brand taking Instagram by storm. Whenever I come across somebody’s Instagram skincare routine they have at least one product from this brand so it was only right I tried some stuff out…
I purchased the 50th anniversary kit from Beauty Bay which is a money saver especially if you are looking to try a few things. I purchased the kit for £32 however I don’t think they have this one available anymore but they do have a few others. Rather than post a really long blog post I’m going to break it down into a few posts so I can write a detailed review for each. I’m going to kick the mini series off with the raved about Drying Lotion.
My skin type is combination, dry, oily and sensitive. A lovely little combo to say the least.
“Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is a highly coveted acne treatment that refreshes and repairs the complexion effortlessly. An excellent spot treatment made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid, Drying Lotion clears up and soothes unsightly whiteheads overnight without irritating the surrounding skin.”
Isopropyl Alcohol, Aqua (Water, Eau), Calamine, Camphor, Sulfur, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc, Glycerin, Salicylic Acid.
Running the ingredients through COSDNA two ingredients flagged up as irritants. The first was Alcohol, provided the name of the lotion I wasn’t too surprised that this was mixed in the ingredients. Alcohol is very drying on the skin so using it to dry out specific pimples can work well. The second was Camphor, which was rated a 4 on the acne scale which I was very surprised with, this is meant to be drying pimples not causing them!
I’m torn with this product, it works amazingly on the skin around my cheeks and chin but my forehead is a serious no go. My t-zone is my most sensitive area prone to breakouts and this seriously made my acne worse (could be the Camphor or the alcohol). I applied it overnight and by the morning my forehead was more inflamed than the night before, after that I discontinued use and my skin calmed down considerably. As for the small pimples on my chin and cheek they literally disappeared overnight. I’m a little upset that I can’t use this around my t-zone as that is what I mainly bought it for.
If you have sensitive acne prone skin this may not work for you unless your skin can handle strong substances. On the other hand if you have normal to oily skin you will love this, it will literally dry your pimples overnight. Definitely a staple for those annoying little pimples I get around my cheek and chin!
