L’OREAL Infallible 24h Matte – Review

Being the unorganised person that I am I found myself without a foundation on my way to Venice. The clinique counter at the airport didn’t have my shade in stock so I was forced to buy something else, without doing some research online I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a new foundation so I went for this cheaper alternative that I had seen some people post about and quickly skim read some reviews online.

I bought this tax free as it was in the airport but online you can get it for £7.98 on Amazon.

“A matte result that lasts up to 24 hours. Clinically proven; waterproof, steamproof. All the comfort, none of the shine. Perfect coverage. No Cakey effect. Easy to apply, enriched with perlite technology, and reduces the appearance of shine up to 24 hours.”

The foundation applies really well, very easy to blend and build-able coverage. I have combination skin, so sometimes I get dry patches around my t-zone and chin. Upon initial application the foundation doesn’t highlight any dry patches or make it appear flaky. I used a damp beauty blender to apply the foundation but I believe the consistency of the foundation would make it blend well with brushes too, without leaving the dreaded streaky finish. I also used a translucent setting powder to set everything into place.

I wear shade 24 – Golden beige. This matches my skin tone perfectly.

I think this foundation controls oil really well, I found myself getting slightly oily through my t-zone midway through the day but it wasn’t as oily as normal. However, I did find the foundation beginning to highlight the dry patches on my face, across the t-zone, chin and cheek. I was very surprised that I had dry skin around my cheeks as it’s something i’d never noticed before. By the end of the day the oily side had held up but I felt as though my skin looked scaly (like a lizard :|), not a good look!! Now the weather in Venice was pretty cold so I didn’t think it was fair to write it off based on using it there as it could have been my skin playing up due to change in temperatures, so I used it back in the UK and I found the same result.

Overall Review

This foundation is not for me, every time I use it consecutively over a few days I always find my skin to be a lot drier than normal, and have small breakouts across my sensitive areas. My skin becomes dry to the extent that it feels rough when i wash it (especially across my t-zone) and it begins to peel and bleed due to the dryness. Whenever I stop using this foundation my skin returns to normal, I did try this foundation 3 times just to make sure it wasn’t down to the weather, my skin or anything else I might have changed in my skincare routine. If you have normal/oily skin I think this may work for you, anyone with combination or dry skin I wouldn’t really recommend trying this one!
