I’m sure many of you have already come across a mask similar to this as I’ve seen a wave of instagrammers post themselves using it, but everyone has their own version which works best for them so I thought I would share my favourite way to make this Turmeric Mask which works the best on my skin (combination & sensitive).
This mask as far as I know originates from India, as many Indians use turmeric as an essential part of their beauty regime to get glowy skin. This mask was passed down to me from my momma around 7 years ago when I was suffering from cystic acne. And I still turn to it when my skin is breaking out or when I need to give my skin some TLC.
- Antiseptic and antibacterial properties
- Reduces oil secretion from sebaceous glands
- Gentle yet effective exfoliant
- Reduce pigmentation and blemishes
- Removes dead cells
Do i need to give you any more?!
- 1 Teaspoon gram (besan) flour
- 1/4 Teaspoon turmeric (Too much can stain your face pretty yellow)
- 1-2 Teaspoons rose water (enough to make a paste)
I have sensitive combination skin, so i prefer to use more gentle products to combine the products and find this combination to work the best. I’ve used lemon juice in place of rose water in the past but i found it too harsh and aggravating on my skin, i feel like it led to more breakouts especially around my chin. But the rose water makes this a perfect combination because…
- Maintains the skins pH balance
- Anti-Inflammatory and anti-bacterial
- Unclogs pores and controls sebaceous glands
- Regenerates new skin cells
- Hydrates, revitalises and moisturises
You should look a little something like this with the mask on…
Leave on for around 10-15 minutes or until the majority of the mask has dried. Don’t be too harsh when washing it off the skin, place some water on your hands and press onto the face a few times to loosen it up, then gently use it as an exfoliant on the face before rinsing it off.
I find this mask to help reduce the redness on my skin, soothes and dries out pimples, and removes dead skin cells without being too harsh and aggravating the skin. My makeup application also goes on soooo much better after using this.
I do have to say that you can’t expect miracles from using this mask once, i do believe it helps soothe the skin on first application but for long term changes in hyper-pigmentation and the lightening of blemishes it works best when used consistently. I like to use this at least 1-2 times a week but if you are suffering from cystic acne i would even recommend using it 3-4 times which worked really well for me! Because your using all natural products i don’t see the harm in it and if it works well for you why not!
Hope this helps! Let me know if you guy’s try it out 🙂
